Gujarat Cracks Down Hard: 500+ Illegal Immigrants Detained in Ahmedabad, Surat

Surat/Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): On the instructions of the central government, a massive campaign has been launched against illegal immigrants in Gujarat. Police have detained more than 500 suspected immigrants in Ahmedabad and Surat. Officials say that most of them are Bangladeshi citizens, who have also been found with fake Indian documents.
Big action against illegal immigrants in Gujarat, more than 500 suspects detained in Ahmedabad and Surat: Ahmedabad Crime Branch DCP Ajit Rajian said that a search operation was carried out across the city in collaboration with SOG, EOW, Zone 6 and Headquarters teams. During this, more than 400 suspected foreign nationals were detained. Crime Branch JCP Sharad Singhal said, "On the instructions of Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi and DGP, a big action was taken in Chandola area. So far, 457 illegal immigrants have been apprehended. All are being questioned and the deportation process is being carried forward."
Surat Police's SOG and Crime Branch teams have raided various areas of the city and detained more than 100 illegal Bangladeshi citizens. All of them are being questioned and their documents are being checked. According to police officials, fake Indian identity cards and other documents have been recovered from many of the detained migrants. Along with checking these documents, it is also being investigated who helped them in getting the documents made.
Police said that 127 Bangladeshi intruders were arrested under two FIRs registered earlier, out of which 70 have already been deported. Deportation proceedings are on against the remaining as well. Officials say that after identifying all illegal immigrants and completing the documentary verification, the process of sending them out of the country will be completed as soon as possible.
