Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have taken major action in an illegal gold smuggling case. In a raid conducted at a broker’s house in the Paldi area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat ATS and DRI seized approximately 90 to 100 kilograms of gold. Officials have confirmed that the estimated value of the seized gold is around ₹83 crore.

Based on intelligence inputs, ATS officers PI Nikhil and PI Chawda led the raid at a house in Paldi. During the operation, officials found gold biscuits and other jewelry. The final assessment of the gold’s total weight is still ongoing, but initial estimates suggest it to be around 95.5 kilograms. Additionally, ₹60-70 lakh in cash was also seized.

Authorities are yet to determine the exact source of the gold, and further investigation is underway. ATS and DRI are also probing possible links to the gold smuggling network and financial irregularities. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.

Gujarat has witnessed several major gold smuggling cases in recent years. In **July 2023**, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) **seized 48.2 kilograms of gold paste worth approximately ₹25 crore** from Surat International Airport.

During that operation, three passengers arriving from Sharjah and an airport official were arrested. The gold was hidden inside 20 packets within five black belts, with a plan to exchange it in a restroom before the immigration checkpoint to evade screening.

Additionally, in another case in July 2023, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested a jeweler and a couple involved in smuggling gold from Dubai.
