Hyderabad (The Uttam Hindu): In Andhra Pradesh, industrialist Velmati Chandrashekhar Janardhan Rao's grandson Keerthi Teja stabbed him to death in a property dispute. The police arrested the accused. This information was given by the police on Sunday. Janardhan Rao, the head of Veljan Group of Companies, was murdered at his residence in Hyderabad on Thursday night. The incident came to light when the police arrested the accused late on Saturday night.

Janardhan Rao's grandson Keerthi Teja, who returned from America, killed his grandfather Janardhan Rao by stabbing him 73 times after a dispute over property. 86-year-old Janardhan Rao, a resident of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh, was living at his residence in Somajiguda here for the last few months. He had recently appointed his elder daughter's son Sri Krishna as the director of Veljan Group and transferred shares worth Rs 4 crore to his second daughter Sarojini Devi's son Keerthi Teja.

According to the police, Sarojini Devi and Kirti Teja had gone to Janardan Rao's house on Thursday. There was an argument between Janardan Rao and Kirti Teja regarding property division. During this, Kirti Teja attacked his maternal grandfather Janardan Rao with a knife. 29-year-old Kirti Teja stabbed Rao 73 times. Due to this, he died on the spot.

Sarojini Devi, who had gone to the kitchen to bring tea, returned after hearing the noise and tried to intervene. It is said that Kirti attacked her too. After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot threatening the eyewitness security guard.

The Panjagutta police have registered a case of murder and started investigating the matter. The accused has been arrested, he had recently returned from the US after completing his master's degree. He was then produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody. The police suspect that the accused may be a drug addict. Further investigation is underway.

Rao was known for his philanthropic works. He donated heavily to the Government General Hospital in Eluru and the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).
