Karwar (The Uttam Hindu): Cases of cow smuggling are coming to light in many states of the country. Now the Karnataka government has taken a big action regarding this. Amid incidents of cow theft in Uttara Kannada district, the district in-charge minister Mankal S Vaidya has warned that people involved in such activities will be shot in public.

Minister Vaidya on killing of pregnant cow

The minister said that he would not allow such activities to continue in the district. He assured that the administration was taking all necessary steps to protect cows and the interests of those who rear them. The minister's statement came in the wake of outrage over the recent incident of killing of a pregnant cow near Honnavar here. Cow theft has been going on for many years. I have told the SP that this should stop and should not happen at any cost. We worship cows. We raise this animal with love. We have grown up drinking its milk. Speaking to reporters, the minister said that he has instructed the police to take ruthless action against those who are behind this, whoever they may be. He said that if such things continue, I will ensure that the accused are shot dead on the road.
