Good news for the people of Delhi-Noida: Toll tax will not be levied on DND, SC upheld the decision of the High Court
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): There is good news for the people of Delhi-Noida. Now they will not have to pay any toll tax to travel on DND flyover. The Supreme Court, while giving an important decision, rejected the appeal of Noida Toll Bridge Corporation Limited (NTBCL) against the previous order of Allahabad High Court. The court said that the company cannot impose toll tax. Along with this, Noida Authority was also pulled up.
The Supreme Court expressed its displeasure at the Noida Authority and said, "Noida has exceeded its authority by handing over its power to levy toll to the company." While giving the verdict, the court said that no strict test has been done to determine the demand in the PIL filed. This demand is for a welfare society which provides essential things to the common citizens. After this decision, the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) Flyway will now be toll-free.
Giving contract to NTBCL is unfair: SC
The Supreme Court dismissed the petition filed against the 2016 order of the Allahabad High Court in which the private company was asked to stop collecting toll on the DND flyway connecting Delhi to Noida. This decision of the country's top court will benefit lakhs of people who travel on the DND flyway daily.
At the same time, the Supreme Court slammed the Noida Authority for handing over toll collection to the private company Noida Toll Bridge Corporation Limited (NTBCL) and said that this decision has given unfair advantage to the company. It is completely unfair to give the contract to the private company NTBCL to collect toll from vehicles plying on the Delhi-Noida DND Flyway. The company did not even have any prior experience for this.
