Global Demand for BrahMos Soars: 4 More Countries Eye India’s Supersonic Missile

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu):The popularity of the Indian-made BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is increasing worldwide. After successfully starting the supply of missiles to the Philippines, now four more countries have shown interest in acquiring this state-of-the-art weapon. However, no official statement has been issued in this regard by the Defense Ministry or the Army.
According to a report by Tribune India, the Indian government is planning to sell the BrahMos missile to four additional countries – the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Vietnam. The report cited sources as saying that these countries are primarily interested in the land-based version of the BrahMos. The Philippines has ordered the anti-ship version of the BrahMos for coastal defence, which has a range of 290 kilometres.
Earlier, India had finalised a deal for the supply of Brahmos missiles to the Philippines and has also started deliveries. Talks are also going on with Indonesia regarding missile purchase and an Indonesian delegation is likely to visit India soon.
BrahMos Aerospace Director General JR Joshi told a newspaper that the tests of the BrahMos NG (Next Generation) missile have started and are expected to be completed by 2026. This new generation missile will be deployed on Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft, which will further increase its aerial strike capability.
During Aero India 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the progress of the Indian defence industry and said that the country is going through a revolutionary transformation. He said that there was a time when India was dependent on 65-70% imports for its defence needs, but today the situation has reversed and almost the same percentage of defence equipment is being manufactured in the country itself.
The Defence Minister further said that India is now exporting everything from small arms to large weapon platforms like BrahMos and Akash missile systems to many countries. This is not only increasing India's defence exports but also strengthening new defence collaborations and partnerships with various countries globally.
