Fog and Chilly Weather Set to Increase in Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, IMD Warns with Yellow Alert

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for fog and cold wave conditions in several parts of northwest India over the next 5-7 days.

The IMD forecasted that cold wave conditions will persist in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan and Punjab. Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will continue to experience cold waves for the next six days, while Rajasthan and Punjab will face cold conditions for two days, with warnings issued for these regions as well.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh for the next six days. On December 21, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan will experience particularly cold weather. Though the cold wave is expected to lessen in North-West India after December 23, severe fog conditions are predicted to develop in Punjab and Haryana, with a yellow alert issued for both states. In Delhi, dense fog is expected on December 22, followed by moderate fog on December 23, which will continue through December 25. Rain is anticipated in Delhi-NCR on December 26 and 27, which may further intensify the cold.

The IMD also warned of dense fog affecting regions including Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, East Rajasthan, and Jharkhand until December 22. Additionally, severe cold is predicted in Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Meghalaya, with temperatures expected to drop further in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan.
