Ferozpur (The Uttam Hindu): In a crackdown on illegal fertilizer hoarding in Punjab, officials from the concerned department are facing serious scrutiny. The government has begun taking stringent action against those found involved in such activities. Recently, a case of illegal hoarding of DAP fertilizer came to light in Ferozepur, Punjab, leading to the suspension of the Chief Agriculture Officer, Jagir Singh, with immediate effect.

Previously, as part of efforts to curb fertilizer hoarding and ensure quality control, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian had ordered the cancellation of licenses for 91 firms. Additionally, three FIRs were filed, and investigations were launched regarding fertilizer sampling and quality. In the latest development, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department in Ferozepur initiated an investigation into the illegal hoarding of DAP fertilizer. During the probe, 3,236 bags of DAP fertilizer were discovered in a warehouse belonging to a firm, but the company lacked any proper records for the stock. When questioned, Chief Agriculture Officer Jagir Singh failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, resulting in his immediate suspension by the department.
