Farmer Activist Jagjit Singh Dallewal Set to Begin Hunger Strike on November 26
Chandigarh, (The Uttam Hindu): Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal announced at a press conference that he will commence a fast unto death starting November 26, 2024. This move is part of his continued fight for farmers' rights, specifically demanding fair compensation for land acquired for national highway projects.
Dallewal, the president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur), is no stranger to hunger strikes as a form of protest. He has previously undertaken several hunger strikes to highlight issues affecting farmers, including demands for equitable compensation and the implementation of supportive agricultural policies. His latest announcement represents a significant escalation in his advocacy efforts, showcasing his steadfast dedication to the cause despite facing personal health challenges, including ongoing treatment for prostate cancer.
In his statement, Dallewal underscored the gravity of his decision, declaring that his fast would continue until the government addresses the farmers' demands. These demands extend beyond enhanced compensation to include broader issues related to agricultural policies and improved support systems for farmers.
