Europe Stands with Zelensky Amid Rising Tensions with Trump, UK and France Pledge Support

United States (The Uttam Hindu): After a heated exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, several European nations have stepped forward to support Ukraine. Britain and France have announced their commitment to working with Ukraine on a ceasefire plan, which they intend to present to the U.S. for approval. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged £1.6 billion ($2 billion) in military aid, including 5,000 defense missiles, reinforcing Europe’s support at a time when concerns about America's stance on the conflict are growing.
Starmer emphasized that a permanent peace agreement is essential, warning against a temporary ceasefire that could allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to regroup and launch further attacks. Ahead of the London summit with European leaders, Starmer confirmed that Britain, France, and Ukraine have aligned on a peace plan, with discussions involving French President Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump. While Starmer expressed distrust in Putin, he acknowledged that Trump also seeks a lasting resolution to the conflict.
Following his U.S. visit, Zelensky received a warm welcome in Britain, where Prime Minister Starmer greeted him with a personal embrace outside 10 Downing Street. Crowds gathered in support of the Ukrainian leader, reaffirming Britain’s solidarity. Starmer assured Zelensky that European nations remain steadfast, stating, no matter how long the war takes, we stand with you. The London summit, attended by leaders from key European and NATO countries, is expected to push for a unified strategy in securing peace and ensuring Ukraine’s defense against future aggression.
