Earthquake Strikes India Again: Tremors Felt at 4:32 AM, Residents Rush Out of Homes in Panic

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Nature once again reminded the region of its unpredictable power as mild earthquake tremors were felt in Leh-Ladakh early Monday morning. The earthquake, which occurred at 4:32:58 AM, measured 3.6 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located within the Leh-Ladakh region itself. Although the tremors were mild, they caused panic among locals, many of whom rushed out of their homes in fear.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the seismic activity and emphasized that such incidents highlight ongoing geological movements in the region. This follows an earlier earthquake in Afghanistan that registered a magnitude of 4.2, which also sent ripples of concern across neighboring areas, showcasing the increasing frequency of seismic events in the region.
Experts attribute these recurring earthquakes to tectonic activity in the Himalayan belt, where the Indian and Eurasian plates collide. The continuous stress and movement between these plates generate pressure that, when released, causes earthquakes. States like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of the Northeast are particularly vulnerable. These events underline the importance of disaster preparedness and public awareness in high-risk zones.
