Pune (The Uttam Hindu): The Maharashtra excise department has canceled the permit to serve alcohol during Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's *Dil-Luminati* concert in Pune on Sunday evening. State excise commissioner C Rajput confirmed the cancellation, stating that permission to serve liquor at the event had been revoked.

The concert faced opposition from several right-wing groups and political figures, including newly-elected BJP MLA from Kothrud, Chandrakant Patil. Patil argued that such events were "against the culture of Pune" and should not be allowed. He expressed concerns that the event would disturb local residents and cause traffic congestion, urging the city police commissioner to cancel the event.

The concert also faced opposition from the NCP, led by Ajit Pawar. The party’s youth wing, NCP Youth Congress, threatened to protest against the event, though the police allowed the concert to proceed as planned.

Recently, Dosanjh has come under fire for allegedly promoting alcoholism and gun violence in his songs. The Telangana government had previously issued a notice ahead of his November 15 concert in Hyderabad, urging him to avoid performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence, referencing past performances. In response, Dosanjh addressed the criticism during his concert in Ahmedabad on November 17, stating that if the government wanted him to stop mentioning alcohol in his songs, they would need to ban liquor nationwide.
