New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The brief spell of relief brought by strong winds in the capital is coming to an end. From Tuesday onward, temperatures are expected to rise steadily, with daytime heat intensifying throughout the week. According to forecasts, the mercury could touch 38°C by the weekend. On Monday, under clear skies and bright sunshine, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 13.8°C—4.3 degrees below normal—while the maximum stood at 35°C, 2.4 degrees above normal. The Ridge area was the hottest during the day at 36.8°C, while Pitampura reported the highest minimum temperature of 18.6°C.

The weather department has predicted clear skies on Tuesday with wind speeds of 10–20 km/h. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 36°C and 16°C, respectively. While strong winds are expected to return briefly on April 4 and 5, no significant drop in temperature is anticipated. As summer conditions start to settle in, residents are advised to brace for warmer days ahead.

Despite the rising heat, Delhi’s air quality has shown remarkable improvement in early 2025. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reported that the average AQI during January–March stood at 231—the lowest in five years for this period. Notably, there wasn’t a single day when the AQI crossed the 400 mark, a first in recent years. The improved air quality has been attributed to favorable weather patterns and coordinated efforts by environmental agencies.
