Delhi Mohalla Clinics to Get a New Name Under BJP Government – Find Out the New Title!

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After a historic victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP government is preparing for major reforms in the capital. One of the key changes being considered is the transformation of Mohalla Clinics into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to align with the central government’s healthcare initiatives. While the new Chief Minister is yet to be announced sources indicate that the Centre will seek a report on the current status of Mohalla Clinics to assess their services, infrastructure and alleged corruption cases before implementing the transition. If approved, the clinics will have to operate under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) guidelines ensuring broader healthcare coverage for the underprivileged.
The move comes amid growing concerns over mismanagement and alleged fraudulent activities in Mohalla Clinics. Earlier this year, reports surfaced about fake diagnostic tests conducted to benefit private laboratories, prompting an investigation. In contrast, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which are operational across India focus on screening and treating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cervical cancer, breast cancer and oral cancer. Currently, over 1.76 lakh such centers are functioning nationwide, while Delhi and West Bengal remain the only states that have not implemented the Ayushman Bharat health scheme which offers ₹5 lakh annual insurance coverage to economically weaker families.
With the recent expansion of Ayushman Bharat to include 6 crore senior citizens above 70 years of age the Centre is pushing for Delhi’s inclusion in the program. To facilitate this, around 51 lakh residents in Delhi may soon receive Ayushman Bharat health cards. If implemented, the transition of Mohalla Clinics into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs could significantly enhance healthcare accessibility in the capital bringing it in line with the national public health framework.
