New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a major political development, Kailash Gahlot, Delhi’s Transport Minister and a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has resigned from the party’s primary membership. In his resignation letter, addressed to AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Gahlot cited unfulfilled promises and recent controversies as the main reasons for his decision.

Gahlot, who held key portfolios including Transport, Administrative Reforms, Information & Technology, Home, and Women & Child Development, also tendered his resignation from the Council of Ministers, GNTCD. As a prominent member of the AAP government, Gahlot expressed frustration over the party’s failure to deliver on major promises made to the people of Delhi. In particular, he pointed to the unfulfilled pledge to clean the Yamuna River, a key election promise. “We promised the people a cleaner Yamuna, but we have failed to deliver on that commitment,” he wrote in the letter.

The resignation letter also addressed the controversy surrounding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s new official bungalow. Gahlot criticized what he described as “embarrassing and bizarre issues,” such as the Sheeshmahal controversy, which he said had led people to question the party's commitment to being the voice of the common man.

Gahlot also expressed disappointment with the ongoing conflict between the Delhi government and the central government, which he believed had hindered the city's progress. “It is now clear that if the Delhi government spends most of its time fighting with the Centre, real progress for Delhi is not possible,” he added.

Concluding his letter, Gahlot stated that he had no other option but to distance himself from AAP. “I find myself left with no option but to step away from AAP, and therefore, I am resigning from the primary membership of the party,” he wrote. This resignation, coming just ahead of the likely Delhi elections in February, marks a significant setback for AAP, as Gahlot has been a key figure in the Kejriwal-led government.
