Tamil Nadu (The Uttam Hindu): In a devastating incident, at least seven patients, including one child and two women, were killed and 20 others injured after a massive fire broke out at a leading orthopaedic hospital in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Local authorities have confirmed the fatalities and injuries, with victims succumbing primarily to suffocation caused by the thick smoke that engulfed the hospital.

The fire reportedly originated in the reception area on the ground floor, with a short circuit suspected as the cause. The flames spread quickly, engulfing multiple floors of the building. Fire service personnel fought for over an hour to control the blaze, while rescue operations are still underway to locate those trapped inside. In a swift response, around 50 ambulances were mobilized to transfer patients to safer facilities. At least 30 patients were taken to the Dindigul Government Hospital for treatment. Emergency teams continue to work tirelessly as efforts to manage the aftermath of the fire continue.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire, but initial reports indicate that the short circuit in the reception area may have triggered the tragic blaze. The local community remains in shock as the recovery efforts continue.
