Dead man's eye goes missing in Patna hospital, doctors blame rats
Patna (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking incident unfolded at Patna's Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) after a deceased man's left eye went missing while his body was lying in the hospital. Fantus Kumar, who had sustained a bullet injury in his abdomen, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday and admitted to the ICU. Unfortunately, Kumar passed away the following night.
The grieving family, who had been keeping vigil over his body, claimed that the eye was removed by someone at the hospital. They were left in shock when they returned early the next morning to find his left eye missing. "How could this happen? Someone from the hospital must have taken it. Either they were involved with the people who shot him, or they are running some business of removing eyes," Kumar's brother-in-law told.
In response, hospital authorities suggested an alternative explanation. Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh, the Medical Superintendent of NMCH, stated that the missing eye could have been eaten by rats. He confirmed that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the missing eye, and assured that CCTV footage was being reviewed by the police.
"Fantus Kumar was admitted to the ICU after being shot, and the bullet was successfully removed during surgery. He passed away at 8:55 pm on Friday. The family stayed with him until 1 am, and when they returned around 5 am, they reported that his left eye was missing," Dr. Singh said. "We are looking into what happened, and an FIR has been filed to investigate further." Police are now examining the CCTV footage from the hospital to clarify how the eye disappeared and determine whether foul play was involved.
