Cuttack Train Derailment: 1 Killed, Several Injured as Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express Goes Off Tracks

Cuttack (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating train accident occurred near Cuttack, Odisha on Sunday, March 30, when 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya SMVT Superfast Express derailed. Unfortunately, one person lost their life and several others were injured in the accident. The train, numbered 12551, was traveling from Bengaluru to Kamakhya when the derailment happened near Nergundi Station in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway. The incident occurred at approximately 11:54 AM, and rescue operations were initiated promptly.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade teams quickly reached the site and began relief and rescue work. Medical teams were also deployed to assist the injured passengers. The East Coast Railway Department confirmed that efforts were being made to rescue those trapped in the train. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted about the incident, stating that his office was in touch with the Odisha government and railways to ensure assistance to those affected. Local MLA Prakash Chandra Sethi visited the site to assess the situation, and arrangements were made to provide water and food to the stranded passengers. A special train from Bhubaneswar will transport the passengers to Kamakhya and repair work will commence after the train is removed from the track. The cause of the derailment is still unknown and an investigation is underway to determine the reason behind the accident. The East Coast Railway is working to normalize the situation and ensure the safe transportation of passengers.
