Mathura (The Uttam Hindu ): Due to the alertness of the highway police, a major incident was averted in Mathura city. Chhaimar gang leader Fati alias Asad, who had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in a police encounter early Sunday morning. The encounter took place in Mathura city. According to the police, Fati was planning to commit a crime. His two companions managed to escape from the encounter, and three police teams are searching for them in the city and rural areas. SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey said that the police had received intelligence that some miscreants were planning a crime in the city. On receiving the information, the highway police surrounded Fati and his companions in Krishna Kunj Colony. An encounter broke out between the miscreants and the police in the early morning. Fati was injured in the encounter, while his two companions escaped. The injured miscreant was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

The deceased miscreant has been identified as Fati alias Asad, who was a resident of Garh Mukteshwar in Hapur district. He had more than three dozen criminal cases registered against him including robbery, dacoity and murder. He was also wanted in several cases in Mathura. According to police records, Asad had 18 cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. Police said that Asad was also involved in the robbery and murders in Pathankot in 2020, in which Indian cricketer Suresh Raina's aunt, uncle and their son lost their lives. He was wanted in this case since then. In 2023, Muzaffarpur police also killed Rashid, an accomplice of Asad, in an encounter. Police are searching for the absconding accused and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
