New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Delhi-NCR region is witnessing a significant rise in viral fever cases with over 54% of households reporting at least one or more family members experiencing flu-like symptoms. The increase in cases has been attributed to seasonal changes affecting the region.

Elderly and Children Most Vulnerable

Health experts highlight that people over 50 and young children are the most susceptible to this viral illness, which manifests as headaches, cough, fatigue, mild fever and respiratory issues. Additionally, individuals with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD and heart-related ailments are at higher risk of severe symptoms.

Hospitals Witness Increased Cases of Pneumonia & Bronchitis

With the surge in infections, hospitals across Delhi-NCR have reported a higher influx of patients suffering from pneumonia and bronchitis due to severe viral infections.

Survey Highlights Rise in Cases

A recent survey conducted among residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad received responses from over 13,000 citizens. The findings revealed:

9% of respondents reported that four or more individuals in their household were experiencing flu or viral symptoms.

45% stated that 2-3 members were affected.

36% reported no illness in their families.

The study also indicated a significant increase in cases compared to August 2024, where only 38% of households were affected, marking a sharp rise in viral infections.

Precautionary Measures Advised

Health professionals urge citizens to take preventive measures such as wearing masks in crowded areas, maintaining hygiene, staying hydrated, and seeking medical attention if symptoms persist. The rise in cases calls for heightened awareness and precautionary steps to curb the spread of viral infections in the region.
