New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Preparations have begun to challenge the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 passed in Parliament in the Supreme Court. After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, now the Congress has also announced to approach the court, calling this bill against the Constitution.

Preparations to challenge the Wakf Amendment Bill in the Supreme Court, Congress will soon file a petition: The bill was passed first in the Lok Sabha on Friday morning, then in the Rajya Sabha. Opposition parties had lodged widespread objections against it. In the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Stalin opposed the bill by wearing a black band and said, "Passing the bill at 2 o'clock in the night is an attack on the basic spirit of the Constitution." He announced to file a petition in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter) saying, “Congress will soon challenge the constitutionality of the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 in the Supreme Court.” He said the party was committed to protecting the principles enshrined in the Constitution.

Jairam Ramesh also reminded that the Congress has previously fought legal battles in the Supreme Court in matters related to the CAA, 2019, the 2019 amendment to the RTI Act, the Conduct of Election Rules (2024) and the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
