New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India’s defeat in the Sydney Test marked the end of a decade-long hold on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and dashed Team India’s hopes of reaching the ICC World Test Championship Final for the third consecutive time. Head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed deep disappointment over the team’s performance and issued directives to both senior and young players in the squad.

Speaking at a press conference, Gambhir candidly shared his dissatisfaction, particularly with the performance of senior players. He emphasized the importance of playing domestic cricket, stating, "Everyone should play domestic cricket. If you want to excel in red-ball cricket, you must prioritize domestic cricket."

Amid rumors of retirement surrounding Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Gambhir refrained from commenting on their future. He remarked, "I cannot decide the future of any player; it depends on their hunger and commitment. I hope they will take the necessary steps to move Indian cricket forward." Rohit, who has been struggling with poor form, had opted out of the Sydney Test further fueling speculation.
