China Faces Heat: India Levies Anti-Dumping Duty on 4 Chinese Products

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has taken a significant step to protect its domestic industries by imposing anti-dumping duties on four Chinese goods, including vacuum flasks and aluminium foil. This move aims to counter the cheap imports from China that were severely impacting Indian businesses.
Affected Products and Duties
Soft Ferrite Cores: Up to 35% duty imposed on CIF (cost, insurance freight) value
Vacuum Insulated Flask: $1,732 per tonne anti-dumping duty levied
Aluminium Foil: Anti-dumping duty of up to $873 per tonne imposed provisionally for six months
Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid: Duty imposed in the range of $276 per tonne to $986 per tonne
Duration of Duties: The duties imposed on Soft Ferrite Cores, vacuum insulated flask, and Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid will be levied for a period of five years. The provisional duty on aluminium foil will be in effect for six months.
Reasoning Behind the Move: These duties were imposed after an investigation by the Commerce Ministry's DGTR found that these products were being exported to India from China at below normal prices, hurting domestic industries. The move aims to ensure fair trading practices and create a level-playing field for Indian producers.
India-China Trade Dynamics: China is India's second-largest trading partner, with a trade deficit of $85 billion in 2023-24. India has repeatedly expressed concerns over the widening trade deficit and has taken steps to address it.
