Haiti (The Uttam Hindu): Over the weekend more than 100 people were brutally murdered in Haiti's Cite Soleil slum under the suspicion of witchcraft. The National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH) reported on Sunday that approximately 110 people mostly elderly were killed in a violent massacre carried out by a gang led by Monel "Mikano" Felix and his group Viv Ansanm.

The killings were triggered when Felix's child fell ill prompting him to seek guidance from a voodoo priest. The priest allegedly accused local elderly residents of using black magic to harm the child leading Felix to order the massacre.

The gang members killed around 60 people on Friday and another 50 on Saturday using knives and daggers. All the victims were over 60 years old. Cite Soleil a densely populated and impoverished area near Port-au-Prince's harbor is notorious for being one of Haiti's most violent neighborhoods. The violence was exacerbated by stricter gang controls including a ban on mobile phone use which hindered residents' ability to share information about the massacre. Felix, the leader of the Wharf Jeremy gang, had previously been banned from entering the Dominican Republic in 2022.
