Chaos in Kalkaji: Cases Filed Against Atishi, Supporters & Ramesh Bidhuri’s Son

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Delhi Assembly election campaign may have officially ended but political tensions continue to escalate. Several parts of the capital witnessed unrest throughout the night with the most significant disturbance occurring in Kalkaji, the constituency of Chief Minister Atishi. The Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Atishi, her supporters and BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s son at Govindpuri police station for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. Atishi took to social media late at night, alleging that Manish Bidhuri, son of BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri along with his family members was moving through slum areas and breaching election norms. She demanded action from the Election Commission. Meanwhile, the DCP of South-East Delhi confirmed that a case had been filed against Manish Bidhuri and Ravi Dayama under Section 126 of the RP Act following complaints. However, Delhi Police later clarified that a vehicle linked to Bidhuri’s family was checked in the presence of a magistrate and no violations were found.
In an unexpected turn, an FIR was also registered against Atishi and her supporters for violating the election code. According to Delhi Police, Atishi was found at Fateh Singh Marg around 12:30 AM with 50-70 supporters and 10 vehicles. Despite police instructions to disperse they remained at the location leading to a case being filed under Section 223 of BNS and Section 126 of the RP Act based on a complaint from the flying squad team. Additionally, two AAP members, Ashmit and Sagar Mehta were booked for allegedly preventing a Delhi Police head constable from recording the gathering. Officials stated that when the policeman began video recording the crowd at Baba Fateh Singh Marg in Govindpuri, AAP workers stopped him and allegedly obstructed his work. A case has been registered against them for interfering with official duties.
Reacting to the developments, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal strongly criticized the Election Commission and the Delhi Police. He alleged that while his party leaders were being targeted for raising concerns, BJP workers were allowed to violate election laws without consequences. In a social media post, Kejriwal claimed that the police and the Election Commission were actively protecting BJP’s alleged malpractice while attempting to suppress AAP’s complaints. He accused them of facilitating the illegal distribution of money, liquor and other goods while filing cases against those who tried to stop such activities. The political controversy surrounding the alleged violations continues to stir debate as election day approaches.
