Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): A major road accident occurred late Wednesday night in the Navyug Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, where a passenger bus overturned, injuring at least 12 people. The bus, which belonged to the Transport Corporation, was en route to Srinagar from Jammu when the incident took place.

According to preliminary information, the accident happened when the driver, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle inside the tunnel, lost control of the speeding bus. The vehicle overturned, causing panic among the passengers and affecting traffic movement in the tunnel. Rescue operations were immediately initiated by traffic police personnel and bystanders. All trapped passengers were pulled out and rushed to nearby medical facilities.

Medical officials confirmed that five of the injured passengers were referred to GMC Hospital Anantnag for advanced treatment, while others are being treated at hospitals in Qazigund. Two individuals with minor injuries were discharged after first aid. The Navyug Tunnel, an important passage connecting Banihal in Jammu province and Qazigund in the Kashmir Valley, is a key link between the two regions. Police have registered a case and are investigating the exact cause of the accident, with CCTV footage being reviewed for further clarity.
