New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Rajender Meghwar, a young man from Pakistan’s minority Hindu community, has etched his name in history by becoming the first Hindu officer in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). Meghwar’s groundbreaking achievement has made headlines as he takes on the role of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the Gulbarg area of Faisalabad, one of the largest cities in Pakistan. His appointment marks a significant step toward greater representation for minorities in Pakistan’s police force.

In an interview, Meghwar emphasized the importance of his role, saying, “Being in the police allows us to directly address the problems of the people, which we cannot do in other departments.” Meghwar, who hails from Badin in the Sindh province, a rural and economically underdeveloped region, believes his position in law enforcement will enable him to make a substantial impact on the Hindu community and other minorities, something he felt was not possible in other government sectors.

A standout achievement in Meghwar’s career is that he cracked the competitive Civil Services Examination (CSE), paving the way for his induction into the police force. His appointment as the first Hindu ASP in Faisalabad marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a Hindu has been appointed to such a prominent position in the city since the establishment of the Punjab Police, the primary law enforcement body of Punjab.

Meghwar’s achievement comes at a time when the Hindu community in Pakistan represents 2% of the country’s population, according to the 2023 census, making it the largest minority group in the Islamic Republic. His success serves as an inspiration to others in the minority community, showing that barriers in public service can be broken.

In related news, another inspiring story comes from Roopmati, also from the Hindu community, who has passed the Civil Services Exam with aspirations to join the foreign ministry and project a positive image of Pakistan on the global stage. Her achievement, alongside Meghwar’s, signals a shift towards greater opportunities and visibility for Pakistan’s minority communities in the country’s civil services.
