BPSC Agitation: Prashant Kishor Arrested Amid Protest, DM Reveals Police's Action
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid the ongoing protests for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams, Jan Suraj leader Prashant Kishor was arrested by Patna Police early Monday morning. District Magistrate Chandrashekhar confirmed that Kishor was detained at Gandhi Maidan around 3:45 a.m. while on a hunger strike. Following his detention, Kishor underwent a health checkup at Patna AIIMS, where his condition was reported to be stable. He is currently being held at Piplavan police station in Naubatpur and is expected to be presented in court after 10 a.m. The DM also stated that no one is allowed to meet him at this time.
Police officials revealed that a case has been registered against Kishor for staging a protest in the restricted area of Gandhi Maidan, which is prohibited for demonstrations. They emphasized that Gardnibagh is the designated protest zone. The Jan Suraj Party, however, claimed that the police failed to admit Kishor to AIIMS and subsequently transported him out of Patna toward an undisclosed location. Despite his arrest, Kishor’s hunger strike continues.
The arrest sparked clashes between police and Jan Suraj supporters. Tensions escalated as police used force to disperse the crowd while escorting Kishor away. Protesters caused significant disruption at Gandhi Maidan and Patna AIIMS. In response, the Jan Suraj Party announced statewide demonstrations on Monday, condemning Kishor’s arrest and the actions of the authorities.
