New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Legendary American boxer George Foreman, who won the gold medal at the 1968 Olympics, passed away on Friday at the age of 76. Foreman, who made his mark as one of the most powerful heavyweights in boxing history, also famously fought Muhammad Ali in the iconic "Rumble in the Jungle."
Foreman’s family confirmed his death through social media, sharing their sorrow and celebrating his legacy. His impressive boxing career began with 37 consecutive wins, before he faced reigning champion Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica, where he triumphed by technical knockout in just two rounds. Foreman gained worldwide fame after his 1974 defeat in the "Rumble in the Jungle," where he lost his heavyweight title to Muhammad Ali in one of the sport's most memorable fights.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram, Foreman’s family wrote: "We are heartbroken, with deep sadness, we announce the death of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who left the world peacefully among loved ones on March 21, 2025. A dedicated preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather... he lived a life of unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."
