Bomb Threats Flood Delhi Schools for the Second Time in a Week, Security Heightened
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): At least 16 schools in Delhi, including prominent institutions like Delhi Public School in East of Kailash, Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar, and Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar, received bomb threats via email early Friday morning. The threats led to a multi-agency response, with teams from the Delhi Police, fire department, bomb detection squads, and dog teams conducting thorough searches of the schools.
The email threats, received around 4:30 AM, asked schools to "reply back" to check the demands of the sender. In response, the schools sent messages to parents, urging them not to send their children to class following the alarming messages.
After a detailed investigation, the Delhi Police declared the bomb threats to be hoaxes, as no suspicious items were found during the searches. This marks the second instance in less than a week when schools in the national capital have received such threats. Earlier this week, over 40 schools, including the Delhi Public School in RK Puram and GD Goenka Public School in Paschim Vihar, also received bomb hoaxes, with emails demanding $30,000 to avoid explosions.
Delhi's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his concerns on X (formerly Twitter), calling the bomb threats "extremely serious and worrying," emphasizing the potential harm such incidents could cause to children’s mental well-being and education. Kejriwal urged authorities to take stringent action to prevent further incidents, fearing the psychological impact on students if this pattern continues. The email threats earlier this week claimed that bombs were planted on school campuses and demanded a ransom to prevent detonations. While authorities have assured the public that these threats were hoaxes, the repeated incidents have raised concerns about safety in schools across Delhi.
