New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Protests have erupted in Tamil Nadu as opposition parties demand action in the alleged sexual assault case of an Anna University student. BJP state president K. Annamalai has taken a strong stance, vowing to walk barefoot until the DMK government steps down. In a dramatic act of protest, he whipped himself today to demand justice. The BJP has accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of shielding the accused, claiming he is an office bearer of the DMK’s student wing. While the ruling party has denied these allegations, Annamalai presented photographs purportedly showing the accused with DMK leaders.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Annamalai alleged that the accused is receiving protection due to his connections with the ruling party, and criticized the police for failing to take action. The case has intensified political tensions in Tamil Nadu.
