BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in Hot Water After Controversial Remark on CJI, Supreme Court Responds Sternly

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has landed in trouble after making a controversial remark about Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and listed it for hearing next week. Lawyers appearing before the court have demanded that contempt proceedings be initiated against Dubey.
According to the lawyers, Dubey’s statement not only undermines the dignity of the court but has also triggered a wave of disrespectful comments about the Supreme Court on social media. They have written to the Attorney General and Solicitor General seeking consent for contempt action, but so far there has been no response from the government.
A bench comprising Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice A.G. Masih stated that the matter is serious and will be listed for hearing next week. During the hearing, a lawyer said, “The BJP MP claimed that the CJI is responsible for a civil war in India. This is the most serious attack on the judiciary so far.”
The lawyers have also demanded that the Supreme Court order the removal of the controversial video from social media to prevent further damage to the judiciary’s reputation. They emphasized that this is not a trivial issue but a serious case of contempt of court, which requires strong action. All eyes are now on next week's hearing, where it will be determined whether contempt proceedings will be initiated against Nishikant Dubey.
