New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The first full budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term will be presented in the Lok Sabha today for the financial year 2025-26. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the eighth consecutive general budget today. Before presenting the budget, the Finance Minister met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, President Murmu also fed curd and sugar to the Finance Minister.

Before presenting the budget in the Lok Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this, the Finance Minister sought approval from President Murmu to present the budget. The President gave his approval to the budget and congratulated the Finance Minister by feeding her curd and sugar.

The President's Office also shared some photos on the X account. He wrote, "Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman along with Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary and senior officials of the Finance Ministry met President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan before presenting the Union Budget. Wished the Union Finance Minister and her team all the best for presenting the budget."

According to religious beliefs, there is a tradition in India to feed curd and sugar before any auspicious work. It is believed that eating curd and sugar brings success in work.

Actually, curd is considered a symbol of purity and sanctity, while sugar is considered a symbol of sweetness and harmony. Curd and sugar have special significance in Indian culture. Therefore, before presenting the Union Budget, the Finance Minister meets the President and after this the President feeds curd and sugar to the Finance Minister and wishes him good luck for the budget. After the completion of this tradition, formal permission to present the budget is also given.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her eighth consecutive budget for the financial year 2025-26 in the Lok Sabha on February 1. Earlier, she had created history by presenting the budget seven times in a row. She has presented six full-time and two interim budgets. Sitharaman has presented all eight consecutive budgets in the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sitharaman became the second Finance Minister of the country in the year 2019. Earlier, Indira Gandhi was the first woman Finance Minister who presented the budget of 1970-71 as Finance Minister.
