BCCI’s Updated Guidelines Begin, Players Arrive Following Protocols
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The BCCI's new guidelines for players came into effect today, introducing significant changes to team protocols. As part of these rules, no separate vehicles were provided for players to travel to the stadium for practice. Instead, the entire team including support staff, traveled together from the hotel to the stadium in a single team bus. The Indian squad is currently in Kolkata preparing for the opening T20 match against England at Eden Gardens on January 22.
Following disappointing performances in the Test series against New Zealand at home and during the Australia tour, the BCCI introduced a comprehensive 10-point guideline aimed at improving team discipline and fostering a stronger work ethic. One key rule states that all players must attend the entire scheduled practice session and travel together to the venue. Despite ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma reportedly raising concerns over certain provisions the BCCI has begun implementing the guidelines. The updated rules were shared with state cricket boards hosting the India-England series, including the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly confirmed the new arrangements, stating, "As per the BCCI's 10-point guidelines, we have not arranged any special transport for players. A single team bus has been provided for the Indian squad and personal vehicles are not permitted. The rules require all players to travel together for practice and matches." In the past, some senior cricketers traveled separately in private vehicles even on overseas tours. However, for the first time under the new rules, the Indian contingent arrived at Eden Gardens in a team bus. Head coach Gautam Gambhir led the team off the bus followed by the support staff and players including captain Suryakumar Yadav and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
