BCCI suspends Abhishek Nair and 4 others from Team India support staff big shakeup linked to Gambhir

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After Team India's disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2025, the BCCI has taken a tough stand and made a major reshuffle in the support staff. The BCCI has shown the way out to four important members, including assistant coach Abhishek Nair, fielding coach T Dilip, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, and a masseur.
BCCI takes big action on Team India's support staff, Gautam Gambhir's close friend Abhishek Nair and 4 others suspended; know the reason : The biggest name is that of Abhishek Nair, who is considered very close to head coach Gautam Gambhir. The relationship between the two started with Kolkata Knight Riders and when Gambhir became the coach of Team India, he also included Nair in the support staff. Abhishek Nair was appointed as the assistant coach of Team India in July 2024.
Apart from Nair, fielding coach T Dilip and conditioning coach Soham Desai have also been removed. Also, a masseur has been removed from the physio support staff, although his name has not been made public.
Former coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ended after the T20 World Cup 2024. After this, Gambhir included his trusted colleagues - Abhishek Nair, Ryan Ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel in the team as soon as he took over as the head coach. However, after the recent defeats, a need for change was also felt in Gambhir's coaching unit.
However, this coaching unit played an important role in helping Team India win the Champions Trophy 2025. Despite this, BCCI took this decision due to the defeat in the recent Test series. The 0-3 defeat against England and the poor performance against Australia laid the foundation for the decision.
India's next Test challenge will be a five-match series against England starting June 20. In such a situation, BCCI can soon announce the new assistant and fielding coach. Now all eyes will be on which faces are given a place in the team in place of Abhishek Nair and T Dilip.
