Islamabad (The Uttam Hindu): In a bold move, the United States has imposed sanctions on Pakistan’s missile program, including a ban on four key missile manufacturing companies. The companies affected by the sanctions include Aerospace and Defense Agency, National Development Complex (NDC), Affiliates International, and Rockside Enterprises. Pakistan, furious over the decision, has accused America of adopting a discriminatory stance and claimed the sanctions are an act of injustice. These companies, particularly NDC in Islamabad, were involved in the production of long-range missiles, including the Shaheen ballistic missile.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry swiftly condemned the US decision, labeling it a threat to regional stability and peace. According to Pakistani officials, the sanctions target its arms industry without solid proof, accusing the US of applying a double standard when it comes to licensing military technology to other nations. Pakistan also expressed concerns about the potential for this move to undermine peace in South Asia and beyond.

The US has previously imposed similar sanctions on Chinese companies, citing national security risks. White House officials pointed to the growing threat posed by Pakistan’s missile capabilities, suggesting that its long-range missile development could potentially be used to target countries outside South Asia, including the US. The question remains: who exactly is Pakistan preparing to target, and could its missile capabilities pose a danger beyond Asia?
