America Braces for Worst Snowstorm in a Decade: Emergency Declared in 7 States
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): A severe snowstorm has put multiple states in the United States on high alert as experts warn it could be the worst snowstorm in the past decade. Emergency declarations have been issued in seven states including Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri as the storm threatens to impact the lives of over 60 million people. The US National Weather Service has issued special warnings for Kansas and Missouri, where snowfall could reach up to 8 inches, accompanied by winds blowing at speeds of 72 kilometers per hour. Even Florida is experiencing unusual heavy snowfall further intensifying the storm’s impact.
Meteorologists attribute the snowstorm to the polar vortex a counterclockwise flow of extremely cold air usually confined to the North Pole. When it shifts southward, it brings intense cold and severe weather conditions to regions like the United States, Europe and Asia. Experts believe this phenomenon is currently responsible for the extreme cold sweeping across America and could soon affect Europe and Asia as well.
