AAP announces first list of 11 candidates for Delhi assembly elections, includes six turncoats
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a proactive move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, expected early next year. Brahma Singh Tanwar will represent AAP in Chhatarpur, while Anil Jha has been fielded from Kirari. Deepak Singhla will contest from Vishwas Nagar, and Sarita Singh has been nominated for Rohtas Nagar. BB Tyagi is set to represent Laxmi Nagar, and Ram Singh Netaji will run from Badarpur. Gaurav Sharma is set to contest in Ghonda, Manoj Tyagi in Karawal Nagar, and Somesh Shaukeen in Matiala.
The list includes six turncoats — three from the BJP and three from the Congress.
Both Brahma Singh Tanwar and Anil Jha are former BJP legislators who joined AAP earlier this year. BB Tyagi, another former BJP leader, is a two-time councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Deepak Singhla, a senior AAP leader, had previously contested against BJP’s Om Prakash Sharma in Vishwas Nagar. Sarita Singh, who leads the AAP student wing, Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti, is a former MLA from Rohtas Nagar.
Ram Singh Netaji, a two-time MLA from Badarpur, and Zubair Chaudhary, son of five-time Seelampur MLA Mateen Ahmed of Congress, are also on the list. Veer Singh Dhingan, a former Congress member, is a three-time MLA from Seemapuri. Gaurav Sharma serves as AAP’s national joint secretary for organisation building, while Manoj Tyagi is a former councillor. Somesh Shaukeen, another former Congress MLA, joined AAP this year. Notably, AAP has chosen to drop three sitting MLAs from the list: Rituraj Jha (Kirari), Abdul Rahman (Seelampur), and Gulab Singh Yadav (Matiala). It remains to be seen if they will be accommodated in other constituencies in subsequent announcements.
