24 killed, 19 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon
Beirut (The Uttam Hindu): Israeli airstrikes on eastern and southern Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of 24 people and left 19 others injured, according to official and military sources in Lebanon. On Thursday, Israeli warplanes and drones conducted a total of 35 airstrikes in southern Lebanon and 12 in the eastern regions. One of the strikes targeted a motorcycle in the Bekaa Valley, as reported by anonymous Lebanese military sources.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, with Civil Defense teams, the Lebanese Red Cross, and the Islamic Health Authority working to clear rubble from destroyed homes and searching for missing persons. Clashes have continued for a third consecutive day between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, which is attempting to advance from the eastern side of the village of Khiam. Despite the ongoing conflict, Israeli forces have not yet reached the center of Khiam, a significant Hezbollah stronghold in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese health ministry reported that since the beginning of the war on October 8, 2023, the death toll from Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon has risen to 2,867, with injuries totaling 13,047. The current escalation began on September 23, when the Israeli army intensified its air attacks on Lebanon. Earlier this month, Israel also initiated a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon, further escalating tensions in the region.
