Yunus Government Acknowledges Ongoing Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh; Reveals Political Motives Behind Violence
Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Attacks on Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh have now come to light. These attacks target Hindus at times, while temples are also attacked. The violence is not limited to Hindus alone; other minority communities are also not safe. This admission has been made by Bangladesh’s Mohammad Yunus government. Furthermore, the identities behind these attacks have also been revealed.
Yunus’ government referred to police reports, which indicate that since August 4 of the previous year, attacks on minority communities have been continuous. However, the government claims that most of these attacks were politically motivated. The government also acknowledged that some of the attacks were "communal" in nature but most were driven by political reasons. The police have issued a WhatsApp number to directly receive complaints about communal violence and maintain contact with the minority community.
Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus explained that the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council had recently claimed that communal violence began a day before the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5. According to the report, 1769 incidents of violence, including attacks and brutality have been recorded. The police have registered 62 cases based on these claims and arrested at least 35 culprits during their investigation. However, it was claimed that most of the attacks were not inspired by communal motives but were politically driven.
