Your contributions to nation's progress are Invaluable: PM modi to Indian workers in Kuwait

Kuwait City (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his historic visit to Kuwait praised Indian workers abroad for their significant contributions as he visited a labour camp in Mina Abdullah which houses around 1,500 Indian nationals from various states. This marked the first official event of his visit to the West Asian nation. During the visit PM Modi interacted with the workers inquiring about their well-being and highlighting various welfare initiatives undertaken by the Indian government over the past decade. He pointed out how affordable internet in India has enabled easier communication, particularly through video calls, and asked workers if they regularly stayed in touch with their families.The Prime Minister reiterated his vision for 'Viksit Bharat 2047,' emphasizing that the initiative aims to improve connectivity and commuting for Indian workers overseas. Speaking with a worker from Bihar, who thanked him for inaugurating the Nalanda University campus in Bihar PM Modi responded, saying, “You work hard for your family. I, too, work for my family – 140 crore Indians.” He also highlighted key government schemes like PM Awas Yojana, Har Ghar Nal Yojana, and the Swachh Bharat Mission, which have significantly improved the lives of many Indians. Addressing a Gujarati worker employed as a technician, PM Modi praised the contributions of Indian workers abroad to India’s development. "Even though you have lived here for years, your contributions to India's progress are invaluable.


The money you send home every month has made India one of the top countries in the world," he said. PM Modi also acknowledged the respect that Indian workers have earned globally, stating, "Indian workers are trusted worldwide for their honesty, diligence, and dedication. This reputation is not built overnight but through years of hard work. That is why today, India's youth are in demand worldwide." The Prime Minister’s visit comes in the wake of the tragic fire in a housing facility in Kuwait’s Mangaf area in June, which resulted in several Indian workers losing their lives. In response, the Indian government acted swiftly, with Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh being sent to Kuwait under the Prime Minister's direction. Since the incident, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait has taken measures to improve safety standards at labour camps and housing facilities. Additionally, in 2021, India and Kuwait signed an agreement to safeguard the rights of Indian domestic workers, ensuring their protection and compliance with local laws. PM Modi’s visit reaffirmed the Indian government's commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad, recognizing their immense contributions to India's growth and global standing.
