Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Amid increasing violence and attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the international community has expressed deep concern. The United Nations and the United States have issued stern warnings to the interim government of Bangladesh, urging it to ensure the protection of human rights for all citizens.

Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, spoke with Mohammed Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, over the phone to express concerns about the violence against Hindu minorities. A statement from the White House mentioned that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to respecting and protecting the human rights of all people, regardless of religion. The United Nations also called on Dhaka to ensure the protection of human rights for all its citizens. The UN Human Rights Council recently passed a resolution expressing concern over the human rights situation in Bangladesh.

Attacks on Hindu temples and community members in Bangladesh have been on the rise, particularly following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. The White House stated on December 13 that President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and that the U.S. will hold the interim government accountable for ensuring the safety of religious and ethnic minorities.
