United Nations (The Uttam Hindu): UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned the truck attack in New Orleans Louisiana which occurred early on New Year's Day. In a statement he expressed his condolences to the victims' families the people of Louisiana and the United States while wishing for the swift recovery of those injured. The attack took place when 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar deliberately drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans' French Quarter. Jabbar a Texas resident reportedly displayed a black ISIS flag on the truck’s rear bumper. The attack left 14 people dead and many more injured.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell condemned the violence, and President Joe Biden offered his condolences, promising federal support and stating that violence in any form would not be tolerated. The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Justice Department’s National Security Division and local authorities. President-elect Donald Trump also expressed his sympathy sending his thoughts to the victims their families and the first responders including the New Orleans Police Department.
