Trump’s Second Term Blitz: Nearly 100 Orders to Revamp Immigration and Tariffs
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Donald Trump is set to take the oath of office for his second term as President of the United States, with significant policy changes expected to follow immediately. Trump, who will be sworn in as the 47th President on January 20, has committed to issuing nearly 100 executive orders on his first day, many of which will aim to reverse key policies of the Biden administration.
According to US media reports, Trump’s administration will focus on major shifts in immigration, energy policy, and federal operations. One of his first actions is expected to be declaring a national emergency at the US-Mexico border, as part of his broader effort to tackle illegal immigration.
Stephen Miller, Trump’s incoming Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, briefed senior Republican congressmen on Sunday about the planned measures, which include a pledge to initiate the largest deportation effort in US history, targeting individuals residing illegally in the country. Additionally, Trump is expected to reinstate his administration's “Remain in Mexico” policy, which was designed to address migrant border security.
In his remarks to donors and allies before the inauguration, Trump confirmed his intent to sign numerous executive orders within hours of taking office. “I will sign nearly 100 executive orders, many of which I will outline in my address tomorrow,” Trump said. “With one stroke of my pen, I will cancel dozens of the Biden administration’s radical policies, and by this time tomorrow, they will all be invalid.”
One of the most closely watched policies will be related to tariffs. Trump has indicated he will impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico and Canada and introduce a 10% tariff on Chinese imports. These actions are expected to face legal challenges in the coming weeks. As Trump prepares for his second term, the world will be closely monitoring these changes, which are expected to have a significant impact on US domestic and foreign policies.
