Shaking Disease 'Dinga Dinga' Spreads in Uganda, Affects Hundreds, Watch VIDEO

Uganda(The Uttam Hindu): A strange unexplained illness, known as "Dinga Dinga" or "shaking like dancing," has become rampant in Uganda's Bundibugyo district where it mainly affects women and girls. The condition causes serious shaking of the body, where walking is nearly impossible for the victims, while for some, it leads to a temporary paralysis. Around 300 cases have been reported thus far, but so far, no deaths have resulted.

The disease is characterized by uncontrollable shaking of the body that has a dance-like appearance, accompanied by high fever, extreme weakness, and, in some cases, inability to move or paralysis. Although the cause of the disease is yet unknown, local health authorities are already conducting an investigation into the outbreak.

Bundibugyo District Health Officer Dr. Kiyita Christopher has assured the people that no specific vaccine is available for the disease and most patients recover within a week. Samples from affected persons were sent to the Ugandan Ministry of Health for further review.

Dr. Christopher urged residents to seek medical attention at local health facilities rather than relying on unverified herbal remedies. "Local health facilities are the best place for treatment. I urge the community to avoid unverified treatments and seek proper medical care," he stated. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and work on identifying the cause of the illness to prevent its further spread.
