Langley Dairy Queen Stirs Political Buzz with 'Trudeau Resignation Special' Deals
Langley (The Uttam Hindu): A Dairy Queen outlet in Langley has sparked interest with a politically charged promotion celebrating Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's resignation. The fast food location, situated at the corner of 203 Street and Fraser Highway, offered a "Trudeau Resignation Special" with $2 burgers on Monday, along with a "$5 Poilievre 4 PM Poutine" on the reverse side of its signboard.
This comes after Trudeau’s announcement earlier that day in which he confirmed his resignation as prime minister pending the selection of a new Liberal leader. He also revealed plans to prorogue Parliament until March 24 delaying any potential confidence vote that could lead to an election.
The Langley Advance Times reached out to the Dairy Queen’s owner for comment on the political promotion which coincides with recent shifts in Canadian politics. Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has been challenging Trudeau’s minority government, which was bolstered by a supply and confidence deal with the NDP. However, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh withdrew from the deal late last year leaving the Liberals vulnerable.
In the Cloverdale-Langley City byelection on Dec 16, Conservative Tamara Jansen secured a commanding victory with 66.2% of the vote unseating Liberal candidate Madison Fleischer and underscoring the Liberals’ recent struggles in the polls. With Parliament prorogued until late March, an election cannot take place before April. The Dairy Queen promotion adds a unique local flair to the ongoing political discourse in Canada blending humor with the political shift.
