Chaos in Islamabad: PTI Unrest Leaves 6 Troops Dead, Dozens Wounded

Lahore(The Uttam Hindu): At least six security personnel have been reportedly killed, with many more wounded after the supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan stormed into Islamabad. Pakistan has promised to do everything to control the situation that is getting out of hand and has issued shoot-at-sight orders.Protests began when supporters of Khan organized a protest rally for his release from prison. A PTI procession led by the former Pakistani prime minister reached Islamabad on Monday, November 25, and forced the government to deploy armed forces in the capital.

Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, heads the march, urging demonstrators to call for his release. According to reports from local media, the protest turned violent when a police officer was shot dead, and four others received injuries after being hit by protesters. The demonstration for Khan is "a final call," in which he denounced what he called a "stolen mandate." PTI supporters appealed to the public to join the protest to "break shackles of slavery." The rally is being led by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur along with Bushra Bibi. The government had repeatedly denied access to highways in the capital by piling shipping containers and barricades. The police reports reveal that at least 119 people have been hurt and 22 police vehicles set on fire. It is reported that at least 82 people have died in three days since protests began.

According to sources, the government proposed that PTI relocate the protest away from Islamabad; however, Khan's wife declined the suggestion, insisting on holding the demonstration at D-Chowk. Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi cautioned the party about "serious consequences" should the march advance into high-security areas. Imran Khan is currently incarcerated in Rawalpindi and is facing over 200 legal cases.
