Kabul (The Uttam Hindu): Police in Afghanistan's Faryab province have made a significant discovery of arms and ammunition, including a DSHK-type anti-aircraft gun, in the Almar district. This operation, reported by the provincial police office, highlights ongoing security challenges in the region. Alongside the anti-aircraft gun, authorities uncovered an assault rifle, a mortar weapon, three sets of walkie-talkies, numerous shells, and various other military equipment.

The police statement emphasized the importance of returning any illegally held arms and military equipment, urging individuals to cooperate with law enforcement. This call to action reflects the government's commitment to improving security in a country that has faced decades of conflict. Since taking office in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has been actively engaged in collecting thousands of arms and ammunition, including battle tanks, as part of their efforts to stabilize the situation and ensure public safety.

The presence of such weaponry raises concerns about the potential for violence and unrest in the region. The DSHK anti-aircraft gun, in particular, is a powerful weapon that can pose significant threats if it falls into the wrong hands. The Afghan authorities are determined to prevent the proliferation of military hardware that could exacerbate tensions or facilitate conflict. In light of these developments, the government’s focus on disarmament and securing the public is crucial. By encouraging the surrender of illegal arms, they aim to foster a safer environment for citizens and diminish the risk of armed confrontations. This operation not only underscores the challenges faced by Afghan security forces but also their ongoing efforts to reclaim control over weapons and enhance stability in the war-battered nation.
