New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu):On November 12, 2024, six men were arrested in Bindapur, Delhi, for robbing a grocery store owner at gunpoint to fund their trip to a hill station. The accused were identified as Mohammad Sazid, Mohammad Shoeb, Mohammad Rashid, Mohammad Ayan, Mohammad Aftab, and Mohammad Altab. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Kumar Singh, the police responded to a PCR call reporting the robbery, which occurred around 7:25 PM when Mukesh, the shop owner, was on his way home on his scooter.

Mukesh stated that he was confronted by a group of men who threatened him with a firearm and stole ₹50,000. Following the incident, local police quickly launched an investigation and analyzed CCTV footage from nearly 500 cameras in the area to track down the suspects.

By November 17, police had gathered enough information to locate the criminals. A trap was set in E Block, Bindapur, where three of the suspects were arrested, along with a country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in the crime. During questioning, the suspects admitted that they had planned the robbery to finance their trip to a hill station, hoping to experience snowfall.

The group had used their connections with an acquaintance who owned a cloth shop in the area to gather intelligence on potential robbery targets. All six men were from the same neighborhood and had prior criminal histories. Notably, Mohammad Aftab had been recently released from prison after serving a long sentence and had rejoined his associates for the robbery.

Additionally, the police revealed that the group had attempted another robbery in Uttam Nagar the previous month. The swift action by law enforcement underscores the ongoing efforts to tackle crime in urban areas and ensure public safety.
