Couple Marks Anniversary, Then Ends Lives in Wedding Attire; Sends Heartbreaking Video to Family

Nagpur (The Uttam Hindu) On January 6, a heartbreaking incident occurred in Nagpur, Maharashtra. A couple, overwhelmed by debt and without any children, tragically took their own lives on their 26th wedding anniversary. The couple, Jerryl "Tony" Oscar Moncrieff (54) and his wife, Annie Jerryl Moncrieff (45) celebrated their anniversary earlier that day, enjoying a meal out and receiving well wishes from friends and relatives. However, later in the evening they chose to end their lives, a decision that shook their community.

Before taking this drastic step, the couple shared a video on WhatsApp, explaining their reasons behind the suicide. According to the police, Jerryl, a hotel chef and Annie, a homemaker had always been a cheerful and social couple. Their life, though smooth in many ways, was marked by a deep sadness due to their inability to have children after 25 years of marriage. Despite their struggles, including the loss of Jerryl's job and the mounting financial pressure they continued to hold on to hope. They had been relying on loans to meet their needs, waiting for an opportunity to stabilize.

On the day of their anniversary, they had been in high spirits, celebrating their special day together. They went out, had a meal and interacted with family members throughout the day. But later, they stopped responding to messages, which initially made their relatives think they were resting or tired. The next morning, when their door remained closed, neighbors became concerned and peered inside through a window. To their shock, they found the couple hanging from a noose, ending their lives in a devastating manner. Before taking this step, the couple recorded a video during their anniversary celebrations. In the video, which they uploaded to their WhatsApp status they explained their decision. In the emotional message, Annie addressed their family members, urging them to move on and live happily. She expressed that every family's situation is unique and that their circumstances had led them to this decision. She encouraged everyone to cherish their families, get married and take care of their children.
